At Ngwenya Lodge, we believe that sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation go hand in hand. Bordering the world-renowned Kruger National Park, our Resort is perfectly positioned to collaborate with various organisations and individuals dedicated to protecting South Africa’s biodiversity. A recent initiative involved working closely with the Honorary Rangers from Marloth Park to identify and label indigenous trees on the Resort grounds. This collaboration is a perfect example of how different conservation entities can pool their expertise for the greater good. The Rangers generously shared their knowledge free of charge, while Ngwenya Lodge covered the cost of the name plaques for 50 trees. Together with individuals knowledgeable in local flora, they ensured that each tree was accurately identified.
Although we still have 20 trees left to label, the project is already making a positive impact. Guests can now enjoy our natural surroundings more fully, whether taking a morning walk to the wildlife hide, exploring the Resort trails, or simply relaxing outdoors – while learning about the indigenous trees along the way. For those who love a bit of interactive fun, we offer a “Tree-Wise” checklist at Reception, allowing visitors to track the trees they spot during their stay.
This initiative not only supports environmental education but also strengthens the community of conservationists in and around the Kruger region. By partnering with local experts, Ngwenya Lodge contributes to the preservation of native plant species and enhances the ecotourism experience for our guests.
